Water Quality
N.F. Coquille River
The Coos Soil & Water Conservation District (SWCD) focuses in issues regarding water quality, primarily with agricultural landowners. The Coos SWCD Water Quality Specialist works with the Oregon Department of Agriculture (ODA) to help implement the Coos & Coquille Area Agricultural Water Quality Management Plan by suggesting Best Management Practices (BMPs) for landowners to help minimize water pollution and improve overall watershed health. The Coos SWCD looks to help landowners decrease sediment, nutrients, and pesticides from entering rivers, streams or lakes. The Coos SWCD also looks for ways to help landowners use their resources wisely and still make an economic profit. The Coos SWCD tries to protect and create a healthy stream-side area (riparian area) by planting trees which provide shade for the water body as well as minimizing erosion and providing habitat for wildlife, as well as many other environmental benefits.
